I am an innovative problem solver, strategic sales leader, and trusted technical consultant to clients across the globe.

 

Having been trained by many professionals and mentored by many leaders, I am pursuing the career I love. I am passionate about enabling technologies that create and maintain a safe and secure world. As such, I am thrilled to solve challenging problems in my field, and I make a positive impact every day at a phenomenal company.

 

I have a broad technical background in advanced materials for spaceflight; characterization of viscoelastic materials; micromagnetics in biological applications; microelectronics and photonics; nanotechnology; and embedded electronics in healthcare and defense and aerospace. These days my time and interest are devoted to enabling safe and secure autonomous air travel.

GLOBAL LEAD, INTERNET OF THINGS GROUP PUBLIC SECTOR SALES, INTEL CORPORATION

January 2018 to Present

I oversee sales to military, aerospace, and government clients, achieving record growth and new market expansion. I drove record sales in the $MM across more than 50 global accounts. I've captured 2.5X design wins and 3.5X architectural conversions in my role.

I lead strategy in safe, secure autonomy and the emerging Urban Air Mobility (UAM) market. I serve as a safety-critical avionics technical consultant to defense and commercial aerospace equipment manufacturers, including the UAM manufacturers.

SENIOR SOLUTIONS ENGINEER, INTEL CORPORATION

June 2015 - December 2017

I developed products on numerous projects in the embedded Internet of Things space, including healthcare and defense and aerospace.


I co-architected what is now the first Intel-based commercially-available offering in safety-critical avionics.

PREDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW, UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

June 2009 - May 2015

I was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Ford Foundation Fellowship. 

I patented two inventions; mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students; co-coordinated and managed summer engineering programs for high school students and overall remained busy making the world a better place. 

PRESIDENT/CEO, EFFIMAX SOLAR

January 2013 - June 2014

I dabbled in the tech startup world, leading this early-stage startup through a National Science Foundation Small
Business Innovation Research Phase I award. I also led the company through the 2012-13 cohort of the Village Capital VentureWell startup accelerator program. 

I later led a second early-stage company through participation in a National Science Foundation Innovation Corps program.

RESEARCH ENGINEER, DEFENSE CONTRACTOR, M&P TECHNOLOGIES

July 2008 - May 2009

I supported space and defense industry clients, including NASA, Lockheed Martin, and the U.S. Air Force.


I fabricated and tested high-performance composite matrices with enhanced electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties. I published my work, which was presented at peer-reviewed conferences.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

I became the first female African-American to earn a doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University.


I patented two inventions in microelectronics and nanotechnology.

I graduated with honors. I worked on projects in computational thermodynamics, rheological testing of thermoplastics, and optoelectronic impedance tomography.

Electrostatic Force Balance Microscopy

An apparatus for mapping the topography of a sample, comprising a control electrode, an oscillator adapted to, provide an AC signal to the control electrode and the sample, a cantilever having a tip, wherein the cantilever is positioned between the control electrode and the sample, a deflection monitoring component, a controller connected to the deflection monitoring component, and a transducer, wherein the transducer raises or lowers the sample with respect to the cantilever until force balance is achieved. A method of providing a bias for depletion while sensing the DC potential of buried lines comprises the steps of setting an oscillator frequency, and if tip-sample bias is needed, setting a DC source to set the tip-sample bias, and monitoring a ratio of gains of a first amplifier and a second amplifier wherein if the ratio has changed, adjusting the first amplifier to null the 2ω signal.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: YEMAYA BORDAIN (PHD '15)

February 11, 2020

This International Day of Women and Girls in Science we celebrate and spotlight Illinois ECE alumna Yemaya Bourdain (PhD '15). Yemaya Bordain became the first African-American female to graduate with a PhD in electrical engineering from ECE ILLINOIS in 2015. To complete her PhD, Bordain worked in nanotechnology, focusing on atomic force microscopy. Bordain currently works with IoT Global Group Sales at Intel Corporation (Chandler, AZ).
